Foreign Drive Notes

Each application will be carefully reviewed by the committee board before it is approved. While short driving trips are open for application to all current members, however, there is a requirement that members must have a short driving trip experience with the Hong Kong Land Rover Club, prior to a medium or a long driving trip application will be considered, regardless of your individual driving experience. Each foreign drive’s application procedure may be different, please refer to Exco member’s instruction, but generally as follow :

  • Hong Kong driving licence (NOT accepted in China)
  • International driving licence (NOT accepted in China)
  • Vehicle registration document (Aurthorisation is required if under company ownership)

It is your responsibility to obtain the required document before the application procedure, and to ensure they are valid throughout the trip until your vehicle is returned to your home port.

Document submission procedure, and other relevant information will be announced via a dedicated chat group setup by the committee on WhatsApp for each trip. We strongly suggest you are closely updated, and remain contactable with that chat group once we have confirmed your enrolment status, as important trip information, outstanding document and payment notification will be announced, possibly in a very short notice.

Preparations

For safety reasons and for navigation purposes, a VHF transceiver installation is a compulsory club requirement for any foreign driving trip, a handheld device does not meet this requirment. For details, please click www.landroverclub.hk/private-mobile-radio-system-licence

Important safety and navigation instructions will be broadcasted via VHF in Cantonese language only, it is a compulsory requirement to have a fluent Cantonese communicator per each vehicle, he/she does not need to be the driver of that vehicle, but must be available to make radio communication for the duration of the driving segment(s) for the entire driving trip.

Your vehicle and other gears should be well maintained, and be reminded to have sufficient medication(if required), and follow your doctor’s advice. A trip meeting is normally held after the application procedure is completed, to provide members with detailed information about the departure, and the opportunity to make queries.

On The Road

Safety is of paramount importance, you are requested to maintain a safe and courteous manner towards other members and vehicles, please follow the instructions from the Operation Vehicles – navigation vehicle, trip committee leader, co-navigation vehicle, and supporting vehicle(if applicable), and listen out on the VHF radio at all time!!

It is your own responsibility to assess the traffic condition, road condition, your own ability while on or off road. Traffic information around the convoy may be transmitted by Operation Vehicles from time to time, but you must make your own judgement on how you use such information. Causal conversation is encouraged during highway driving, however, non-essential conversation should be kept to minimum during busy traffic, city route, or when situation arises.

In the unfortunate event should an accident or incident occur :

  • Stay calm
  • Report the accident/incident to any Operation Vehicles. This should be done by the following vehicle ASAP.
  • Reporter should safely stop the vehicle at the scene, remain VHF radio contact, and only if safe to do so, provide immediate assistance until Operation Vehicles arrives.
  • When an accident is reported, non Operation Vehicles should remain total VHF radio silence.
  • Follow the instructions from the Operation Vehicles and/or committees, for personnel not requested to provide assistance, please stay in your car and listen out on VHF radio.
